Hi folkes,

Intending on upgrading system from OC very soon but for now this is my old rig..

AMD phenom x4 ii 940 quad 3ghz (h50 cooler)
M4A79 Deluxe (latest bios 3702)
4Gb DDR2 1066 kingston hyper x
1 x corsair force ssd 120gb
1 x 500gb 7200 hdd
2 x ATI HD 5770 CF
850W psu

For probably around 3 months the system from a cold boot, then from around 20mins of gaming it just comes to a complete hault. ie its like a picture has been taken and right at that moment in time the last sound that was heard freezes and continuously plays. complete lockup...

Now the first month I noticed it, it was generally here or there. Now it happens every single morning, or any time the pc is first switched on. Sometimes I even get a blue screen but the damn thing changes so fast Its impossible to read.

heres what I have tried.

-I used to run in the system 2 x 7200 500gb HDDs in raid 0, but upgraded to the SSD thinking ok maybe that was the problem and wanted an SSD anyway. (no joy, still EXACTLY the same as before)
-tried the ram in different configurations, i DID have 8gb which i would love to use but at the moment is out of the system. (no joy still same problem)
-switching the gpus around using 1 at a time not in CF (no joy)
-updated everything in case of a software issue with drivers.. Including after driver updates aswel as before still the same issue.

I did reset the motherboard to factory settings using the system reset on the exit screen of bios.

now im out of ideas, Im unable to think if i have done anything else.. I will update incase i remember something.

Hope someone can help or have any ideas.

Regards,
Merry Xmas
Martin.

Look in the 'Event Viewer'

Right click 'My Computer' and select manage.

Select Event Viewer and then Applications - and then look up the error associated with your BSODs.

How old is the PSU and what brand is it?

Ok did what you suggested.

"applications and service logs" it then says ACEeventlog 763 errors.

the one that seems to appear on quite a few

"0000000155: 2011-12-14 14:33:08:447 DPPE - Executing RegistryChangedEventHandler
Error Called by: ATI.ACE.NEWAEM.Foundation.RemoteActionAdapter::InvokeAction processID:02676 threadID:( ) domainName:(CCC.exe ) assemblyName:(NEWAEM.Foundation, Version=3.5.4205.40817, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=90ba9c70f846762e)

PSU says on side of it XIGmatek 850W.. modular. i think iv had it for say... 2 years maybe less cant remember.

Sounds like you have a problem with your CCC.

1. Have you OC`ed your GPU`s?

2. Have you installed new GPU drivers prior to this happening?

I was just gaming there around an hour ago and it happened again. Complete lock up of the screen an sound requiring hard reset.

I have a funny feeling before i upgraded CCC to 11.7 (i tried a few others but everytime i start my computer up and windows screen appears the SCALING of the desktop and everything else for that matter will NOT save! everytime i have to enter CCC an click around 3 different areas then it eventually sits still until next reboot.)

before then i ran 10.4 and had to upgrade to 11.7 to run BF3. perhaps it crashed a few times who knows cant really remember but certainly not as much as now!

i never really have my GPU's overclocked. i have a slight 1 on the now for both of the cards but the problem happens either way. I have set the overclock purely to the overclocked version of my card.

any further advice?
cheers.

Tried completely updating with fresh instal of the newest CCC. yesterday i had no crash what so ever which was interesting.. testing again today to see if anything changes! or if it returns to old ways.

ONLY probably now is that everytime i restart and logs into windows the scaling (ie the start bar at bottom, icons on left clock on right etc is out of view, screen is stretched).. It has to be "re-jigged" every time which is a pain. any ideas?

cheers.
