HELP! System won't power on with 8800 GTX

Hi all,

I have just installed a 8800GTX in my system. I have a Thermaltake Purepower 680W
PSU and I have attached both of the pci-e power connectors to the card. When I try
pressing the power button to turn the system on there is a split second of activity
and then it turns off again.

Any ideas what is wrong here? PSU should be enough no?

Opteron 185
Corsair 2GB TWINX2048-3200C2PRO
2 x 72GB WD Raptor 10000 RPM (RAID 0)
2 x 500GB WD Caviar RE2 (RAID 1)
EVGA GeForce 8800 GTX KO ACS3

Thanks for the quick reply gurusan.

Don't know yet, as I was only able to test the new card quickly during my lunch break.
I will be trying my original card again tonight.

The one thing I did quickly try was to unplug the two PCI-e power connectors to see
if the reduced power drain from the card allowed the system to power up longer. When
I did this it seemed to stay up for a split second longer, the system lights powered up a bit brighter but then powered off again.

Firegod - Yes it appears to be seated right, but I will check again. The only thing that concerns me is that the card lies flat on top of the metal Northbridge fan case . Maybe its shorting out, I'll have to check it.

melbourne720 / killer_uk - Yep, the AMPs are 15A on the first two and 8A on the third one. I hope both the 15A goes to both PCI-E cables.

Doppleganger - Interesting. So your system powered off instantly too? Seems a bit weird that the system powers off if the graphics card can't get enough juice. The older cards just used to beep. I think I've run out of molex connectors off my PSU but I'll see what I can disconnect for now.

titaniumx3 - Yep. Will try my other two PCI-E cards tonight to see what happens.

Crowze - I did have the original 680W Purepower with the wrong PCI-E power connectors (no adapters!) originally, until the PSU developed a noise and had it replaced a while back with a newer up-to-date 680W Purepower with the correct PCI-E connectors.

Got it working now. Card just needed re-seating in the end.
