A friend asked me to look at her TalkTalk broadband modem connection, as her broadband has mysteriously stopped working, after previously working fine for two weeks on her new Dell Vista laptop. It's a Huawei MT880 ADSL modem and here's what happens:
- Plug the modem into the microfilter, ADSL link light flashes green, then goes to continuous green (which I believe means a valid ADSL connection).
- I then plug in the ethernet cable from the Vista laptop, and the ADSL link light will then change to orange. I guess this means line error or something, but it seems that connecting the laptop is interrupting the ADSL line somehow.
- If I try to browse to a website in IE, I just get a very slowly progressing green status bar.
It's strange that it was working and now it's not. The only thing I can think of is either a Windows Vista update has interfered, or perhaps the McAfee internet security software has updated and is now causing a problem.
Has anyone encountered anything similar? Suggestions please.
