Hi Guys

Staying at my nans for the moment and she has a basic Tiscali broadband package. It keeps cutting in and out all the time and cannot think why ? Is it just a bad line or could it be this crappy gigaset router. This kind of thing really isnt my thing

Cheers Guys

Depends what exactly is "cutting in and out" - ADSL sync, PPP session, wired/wireless connection to the router.

Hi Mate

Sorry should have been a little more descriptive ! Its wired and not wireless and im unsure what is dropping out, perhaps you could let me know how i check ? The internet drops out, MSN IE skype etc etc i then have to wait between 1 - 2 minutes for it to come back on again ....

What are you using, a modem, router, smoke signals?

There should be some light that indicates whether it's synched up - it'll be labelled "DSL" or something. If it's going out, you're losing synch.
Can you still access the router (if you're using one) while you can't access the internet?

Its ADSL, Im guessing its a modem and Router as it has some wireless functionality. I will double check it tonight when i get home to see if the DSL light go's out, last time i looked it was just static and not flashing when it wasnt working

I will need to look tonight to see if i can access the router ....

Anyone have any idea what speed were on if we have the basic phone / broadband package ?

Right here are some details

Gigaset SE587 WLAN DSL - Router , not sure if i can access the router as there is normally something on the bottom of it with the password etc.

It has just dropped out, the ADSL light was still lit but the online light stopped flashing and went out. Could it be anything to do with the fact i have been using this PC on cable ? Are there any PC settings i need to change as im now using ADSL

Cheers

You don't need to do anything with the machine. The "online light" sounds like the PPP session dropping, but it's possible the router's doing something untoward too.

Is this an issue which i can get tiscali looking into ? The people that work for them dont seem to have a clue. I will ring them in a bit and ask to speak to an english call centre. Was in india last night and the guy there wouldent stop asking me if i had the power cable plugged into the router haha

ARGGHHH

Possibly, if it's something they're doing. In all honesty, I'd try and get away from them - you're unlikely to get much sense from Tiscali...

Quoted for truth, this pakistani guys keeps ringing me and he has no clue what he is on about. He is reading a script from his computer and its very frustrating.

Do tiscali have a UK call centre ? I asked this bloke yesterday and he got very offended LOL :p

*** dont you understand sir, tell me what do you not understand ...

YOU

Good luck with Tiscali. It took them 3 years for a friend of mine to have his problem sorted after talking to various people in India who barely spoke English. His connection kept dropping out randomly and sometimes waiting for hours to reconnect. Turned out in the end to be a high resistance fault. Wires were eventually replaced and he's not had any trouble since.

I'm also with Tiscali but as soon as there is a problem I'll be leaving!

Ring this number 02084954422 and ask for complaints. Took Tiscali 9 weeks to sort out my broadband when I moved house but speaking to the above number got things moving a bit quicker and you'll be speaking to someone in England.
