my cpu fan is noisy at full speed. using SpeedFan I can reduce the speed by clicking the percentage down to 80%, and the noise is vastly reduced, and it doesn't affect temp - my system runs very cool even with the fan completely off unless I'm running memtest or simialr.

So, is there a way to make my fan run at 70-80% every time without having to run SpeedFan? I just want it to run at the lower speed for all users with different logins on this machine.

I can't see a setting in BIOS to do so - it's a rather old board ASUS K8V se deluxe

thanks for any help

don't know what the 'overdrive' facility is though?

I thought there was a background facility in speedfan? and isn't there anything in the BIOS?
You could always just buy a better cooler, I'm pretty sure the AK-876 supports S754, and that's a damn quiet cooler. Is your motherboard header 3-pin though?
