hi im looking at overclocking my Q6600 to 3GHZ if possible i have 4GB of ram 667mhz PC 5300 not sure if that will hold me back?
Can someone please explain how i would go about oveclocking via bios i know you have to alter the FSB but not sure what figures i need to change?
be most grateful if somebody can point me in the right direction

Which motherboard?

It should be as simple as setting the memory ratio to its lowest setting and upping the FSB to 334mhz. The Q6600's usually don't need any extra volts to do 3ghz, tho your northbridge/MCH may need an extra 0.1v if that's four 1gb sticks of memory you have.

I'll have to make assumptions as you haven't given much information...1. Anyway, set you FSB to 1336 if you knw how to do that and set your memory to 668 (unlink it if you have an ASUS MOBO)... and set your multiplier to 9x... that way you get 9x334 = 3006mhz, and your ram won't be stressed or overclocked.

Try and give us a mobo make etc though and some of the guys on hear will hopefully be helpful

Cheers

Uncommon board, but we'll see what we can do.

The FSB seems to be the CPU Clock option. So that's the one that needs to be set to 334mhz.

Set the Memclock Index Value to its lowest setting (will be 533mhz when the FSB is 266mhz, I'm not sure if it'll be different when the FSB is 334mhz. But either way it will have the memory running at 667mhz if set to the lowest setting when the FSB is at 334mhz).

Now because that's a P965 based board you may well have to up the MCH and CPU Termination voltages to get to 3ghz. It'll be a case of trial and error, but start with setting them to 0.1v above the default setting.

thanks guys i will try your suggestions tommorow after work and report back my success if any tommorow if i have any problems will you be able to help me further tommorow please?
