One assumes you've taken out any screws and and unhinged any brackets .....you have tried twisting it a little as you apply pulling pressure...not too much though ???....when ive ever taken a heatsink off the twisting action helps a great deal

Nope havn't taken out the screws that attach to MOBO as they're tucked in behind the cooler...I can just about get at them but am worried about stripping the screws or slipping and damaging MOBO. Also I can't find how to unhinge the bracket!!! Was a while ago I put it on...
Well just make sure that the screwdriver your using is held properly in place ( No slipping )and that its the right size tool for the job ...but if the screw heads are damaged ? you might have to take the MOBO out and remove the CPU Socket and/or Backplate that the heatsink is secured to I suppose
