Help To set up Ps3 Resolution

So i have ps3 for a month now and not able to play it is driving me nuts. I have all cables for it hdmi the other ones as well.

Basically when turn on my ps3 and its connected to tv already with hdmi. it starts wit res 576/580 . how ever my tv supports 1080i/p 720p .

So i go to the display options and change it to a 1080i the screen goes black for few seconds then comes back and it shows the resolution(1080i/p,) but i cant select it and it says it will go back to previous rez in 30 sec. it does the same with 720

What im doing wrong ? i tried two different tv's that support hd/hdmi and i cant select resolution i desire and resolution that tv supports it.

Im so annoyed as im about to sell my ps3 60 gb if this going to continue...:(

emm i have sharp 37 " lcd and in a bedroom i have lg 22" both hd and hdmi computable.

the 576 is always selected so when i select + 720 the resolution changes but i cant selected it . theres only O button witch says go back and then timer if 30 sec of time will run out ir will go automatically to a 576. :confused:
 
Hold the the power button down (from off) so it turns on and off again, it will reset all the graphics settings. Try setting it up front scratch again.
 
well try it on auto and it set it self on 1080i will ps3 handle gta4 and blueray movies on that rez? it should do i think ?
