Hi guys I've brought a p8p67 pro motherboard and will be getting a i5 for it I just wondered what graphics I'd be suited for it I'm unfortunately making this on the cheap (auction sites) as times are hard but I'm still wanting a quality unit I'll be putting 8gb ram in to begin with and then upping it to 16 as soon as funds allow also if you can point me in the right way with how the MHz stuff is explained that would be appreciated I don't mind having a cheap card untill I can get a better one as most are about 100+ I just want to get back gaming soon as. Oh I'd prefere hd too if possible thanks guys

Don't worry about going to 16GB RAM. 8GB is more than enough for gaming so leave that alone until the end.

What power supply do you have/expecting to get?

What resolution is your monitor/TV screen?

Budget for GPU?

Oh and in terms of RAM, overclocking memory with Sandy Bridge doesn't make a whole lot of difference so I would say get the cheapest, branded, low profile 2x4GB set, which today on OcUK is GeIL Dragon 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C11 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit.

Here is a long but detailed review of various types of memory with Sandy Bridge CPUs.

Not sure about memory and Ivy Bridge though, but I presume as you're looking at second hand it's probably Sandy Bridge. Also, I personally would aviod auction sites. Too risky and too many scammers about and looks at classifieds and members markets on a few well known forums. (Unfortuantely you won't qualify for access to the members market here just yet but several others have much less stringent rules and easier access). Prices are cheaper and generally people are more honest. Also remember to check out the clearance section on OcUK.

I've not looked into that yet does that contribute towards what you can run then? I don't mind as hefty as I need to be honest, I'm expecting to get a 21 hd monitor,
I would think somewhere between 50-100 I struggle like hell to save money and I usually end up with some spare money that's why it's getting brought part by part as I can

Well by HD I presume you would want a 1920x1080 screen (commonly referred to as full HD). Smaller and older monitors (20"-22") sometimes have a resolution of 1680x1050 but best to get something like a 22" 1920x1080 screen I would say.

As for a decent GPUs second hand, loads of different ones but here are a few as guide,

£40-50 - Radeon HD 5770
£70 - 1GB GTX460/6850/5850
£80-100 5870/GTX470/GTX560

Prices may be a bit more on the auction site though.

unless your case doesnt come with any fans then dont worry about those for the time being,

in terms of cooling the cpu corsair a50s are well priced and well proven along with cooler master 612s

either of those on a sandbridge atleast will give you great cooling (im at 4.5ghz on a i5 2500k and it doesnt go over 65c with the a50)
