Guys, Im looking at trading in a few games for both my X-box and PS3 (Batman asylum, Uncharted 1)...

But I just wanted to know how it works?..

Do I get credit or do I have to be buying a game at the same time?

Also, where have people found to be the best place for trading in?

You can get store credit, this will get you the higher amount for your games. You don't have to buy at the same time.

Places to trade I cannot comment on due to rules

I tend not to trade games as for older games the value you get is next to nothing, but I have in the past used CEX and ****, CEX are nothing short of rubbish!

trade in values are typically low... for a new £45 game you might get £20 if your lucky...

for older mass produced games now out of fashion, say pes 2008, they might offer you £3

id trade in for other 'pre owned' games, that way you dont end up paying full retail price and get it closer to an online price, although clearly this is not always an option for new games...

CEX are my current favourite place to use as their policy is simple take their 2nd hand price for a game (say it's a new release they re-sell for £30) and you will get half that price for cash (£15) or two thirds for trade in/store credit note (£20). I always do the latter and hold a credit note and wait for a new release I have been waiting for.

Trade in prices are very bad. I got offered 10 quid for a mint condition Gamecube. It was boxed, had 2 controllers and 2 games!

give you 12 quid Ant!

tbh I hate ***. bought two games there, got them home and neither worked. checked the disks and the had tiny holes in the top and a patch of heat damage. took them back but they wouldn't refund.........but they would take them as an exchange at 2/3 of the price I paid!

I traded in a load of games at a highstreet retailer at the weekend. About 8 in total maybe. Forza 2, The Darkness, Juice 2, TW:07 etc and got £40 store credit which I was happy with. Certainly worth more than the games sitting on the shelf.

Trade prices arent great really - especially when youre trading them in on highstreet priced games - better to auction them off or on memebers market for reasonable prices and buy games off the internet for cheaper (in general) more hassle i guess though...

It's not worth any more than that to be fair o.o

Our shops stopped taking them ages ago for any price, apparently they had a wall of gamecubes out the back :p

I cant mention anynames but one of the high street stores will price match any Trade in price +£1, if you have one of those 2nd trade in shops that have a nice online store it works out quite well. I got £31 trade in for Batman this week, £32 ish for Fifa 10 (only cost me £25 new) and £25 for wolfenstein.
