Today after booting up I can no longer connect to the internet. I have been able to use the internet with no problems at all before. I know the ethernet cable works, as I tested it on my laptop which connected fine. This has never happened before. I am using onboard port on an Asus p6x58d-e and the lights(orange and yellow) come on when I plug the ethernet in. I have the latest Drivers and have tried system restore.

Are you getting an IP?
Can you ping the default gateway?
Can you ping 8.8.8.8?
Can you ping BBC.co.uk?

Have you restarted your network, ie modem and router? Also, tried windows network repair?

or

ipconfig /release
ipconfig /renew

1) Go to cmd and type "netsh int ip reset", enter that.
2) Type "netsh winsock reset", enter that.

Restart and check if it works now

I assume you are using DHCP? (It obtains it's IP automatically?)

Edit: Do you even have a network connection being recognised i.e. If you unplug the cable does windows pop up with "A network cable has been unplugged"?
