My current rig spec:

Essentially this is a 2022 OC Hatchet. My main use case is racing sims in VR and I am CPU limited at certain times. CPU performance seems to have come a long way since the 11700 so I'm seriously thinking about upgrading. Unfortunately there is nowhere to go with this motherboard...
As I see it I have two broad choices: 1. I can buy a new CPU, motherboard, RAM (and AIO cooler?) for this rig and fit it. I have no experience with this kind of upgrade and I'm not sure how much trouble I might get myself into. Also, I'm wary of how difficult Windows 11 might be about the change in config. 2. I can buy a brand new system with a lesser GPU, swap the GPUs and flog my current rig with the new GPU in it. I can see this being very expensive though.
I'd appreciate recommendations on the best course from those with more experience than me, with cost definitely being a concern. Also current CPU recommendations would be nice.
Many thanks in advance.

Building a pc really isn't difficult and even if you get stuck you have us on here to help you plus there are loads of self build guides on Youtube. All you need is a new motherbboard, CPU and memory, everything else is great and can be reused. If you take your time taking your current cpu/motherboard/memory out it's just the exact opposite to install the new ones. You will need some fresh thermal paste such as Arctic MX-4 or MX-6 for the AIO which will be less than a tenner then decide whether you want to go Intel or AMD. Personally I would avoid Intel like the plague with the 13th/14th gen nightmare plus that socket is dead anyway. AMD gives you a upgrade path as the AM5 platform is still going through to 2026 I believe. I just swapped from a 12th gen Intel to a AMD Ryzen 7800x3d, Asus ROG Strix B650E-F and 32Gb of DDR5 6000 C30 and it runs perfectly despite the memory not being on the boards QVL list. It is rumoured that the 9800x3d is coming later this month and could be a decent amount quicker than the 7800x3d although more expensive so it may be worth waiting for that to launch and see what the reviews say.

Yes I did but I did upgrade the GPU later.

In the system FAQ OCUK say that they offer a free upgrade service within the warranty period of your PC, I'd get in touch with them :)

The system was built in 2020 so out of warranty.

Yes I did but I did upgrade the GPU later.

Even though it's now out of warranty, I would still recommend getting in touch with Ocuk and see what they can do. Any business is good business lol

Not sure where you got 2020 from. OC built this system in May 2022. I will check with OC, thanks.
