I am a proud owner of 2 VTX 7970 x edition graphics cards. The stock cooler on them isn't very good, so when news of the KRAKEN cooler adapter came out I was over joyed. After installing the Kraken coolers something strange happened to my cards.
The first thing I noticed was the factory over clock no longer showed in MSI afterburner instead of 1050MHz it now shows 925Mhz on both cards. Memory clock now shows as 5500Mhz instead of 5700Mhz as well.

The Kraken cooler on secondary adapter didn't appear to work as the gpu temp shot right up in MSI Afterburner before crashing my PC. I have now replaced the original cooler and the temps are ok, but now now PC to freeze up when I use cgminer with the secondary adapter, and sometimes when the PC boots. Strangely 3d mark works perfectly with x-fire enabled.

I can't explain why the factory over clock has vanished just by changing the cooler on the cards. I need help is working out why my second card cannot mine for more than a couple of minutes before crashing my system now. Temps don't even hit 80c with the stock cooler before crashing.

I have now Purchased the OCUK Kraken 7970 but I am holding off installing it until I have sorted out my current problem.

My dream was 3 way crossfire and a cgminer monster system. Now I am a broken man full of sadness and regret.

Moved the bios switch by accident when handling the cards perhaps? On card 2, are the vrm thermal pads sill in place on both vrms?

Try the switch as mentioned above and make sure your plugging the aio coolers into the the mobo headers and setting the fan speeds in the bios to high/max. (i plugged mine into a fan controller and temps shot up quickly)

I have noticed a switch next to the x-fire connectors I will try moving it on the remaining working card to see if that restores the overlock

The card with the fault had its fans connected directly to a 3 way 12v fan connector connected directly to the psu so everything was on full blast.

the stock vtx had vrm heatsinks already and I have not had to alter them to connect the Kraken kit.

Thanks for the reply's it turns out the BIOS switch on the working card was the reason for the low clocks and is now working normally. Other card still crashes when I use cgminer on it after a few min despite temps being sub 70c. Not to worry, I am replacing it with a couple of 280's for some tri-fire action :)
