Help Upgrade my friends PC

Hey all

Basically my friends pc is lacking.. everywhere.

Specs:

AMD Athlon 1800+
Radeon 9200
256mb ram

Looking at what he's got at the moment.. i'm thinking the motherboard wont be able to support anything fancy?

What would you lot reckon would be the most cost effective upgrade for his pc?

I'm guessing his budget would be sub £100

To be perfectly honest i think your mate is better of saving his cash until he can perform a complete upgrade. Theres a few things you could try and upgrade but i think you'll be creating bottlenecks with whatever you try. If he really feel sthe need to upgrade i guess a 2nd hand 9800pro and a extra 256mb RAM wouldn't hurt. What is this PC mainly used for?

A gig of ram would be a good start.

512MB ram total & a radeon 9600pro (2nd hand)

If he hunts around he might just get a 9800Pro and 512MB ram:

OCUK Value 512MB ram - £30
Second Hand 9800 Pro ~ £60

Total: £90

This would give him a total of 768MB ram and a 9800Pro - a huge boost over his current PC
