Hi guys, looking for some help on this one. I've just upgraded the father-in-laws PC (his old one had a strange overheating issue, see this thread https://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=18723989).

I've replaced the motherboard, CPU and RAM (all for OCUK) so his spec is now:

Asus Z170 Pro Gaming Intel Z170 (Socket 1151) DDR4 ATX Motherboard
Intel Core i5-6400 2.70GHz (Skylake) Socket LGA1151 Processor - Retail
Kingston Fury Black 8GB (2x4GB) DDR4 PC4-21300C15 2666MHz Dual Channel Kit - Black
OCZ StealthXStream 2 500W PSU
Cooler Master Elite 330 Midi Tower Case

There is also a DVD drive and 2 HDD's attached.

For the first time ever (I've built 4 PC's to date, this will be the 5th) I have a problem. The machine will not power on. The LED's on the system board are lit when I connect the power, but the machine will not power on by pressing the power switch. I've triple checked and reseated all connections including power connectors on the board (both of them) and the case power switch jumpers.

I'm now at a loss, I can see the board is getting power and the power switch was working 3 days ago when I last powered on his old rig.

Does anyone have any ideas ?

Guys, thanks for the advice so far. Will be looking to try it tonight after work.

Ok guys, firstly many thanks for your advice. I have the PC now working with Windows installed.

If you're sitting down I'll let you know what the problem was........

Unbelievably I'd connected the PCI-E power connector into the EATX socket on the motherboard.....doh ! The light must have been bad. Anyway I connected the correct power lead (only 4 pin, PSU doesn't have an 8 pin version which I think added to my confusion) and power up and POST straight away !

Panic over, just need to upgrade to Win 10 and copy all his data back.
