Hi guys, really hoping someone can help me here, aas its driving me nuts !
I got a 3g dongle for internet while in a non wifi area on hols, it connects to 3g as the blue led stays solid (according to instructions this means its locked onto 3G signal).
But my tablet just will not connect to internet.
I turned of wifi but no go, when I try to search for mobile networks it won't find any, comes up with "error searching for networks".

Instruction for tablet mention 3g sub menu, I can only assume that's for droid 4.1 as there isn't one in 4.2 ?

If it makes any odds, its a Sumvision Cyclone Voyager II and the USB Dongle is a Huawei E3131.

Please help !!!

Hi Dasyad, bear in mind I am a novice on tablets, and its not rooted ...

Orcvader, I asked the online help person at tmobile and they said it was ... not that I have much confidence in their word !

Does it have more than 1 USB socket?
When I had a tablet it had 2 what looked like USB sockets - except one was a 'host' socket and never seemed to work properly but the other one worked as expected.

Well I had a quick google on it, and I can only see that it's Windows/Mac compatible... and lets say reviews on it are not good for it either...

Trying the other USB port is a good idea, give that a go.

I have a feeling you may need to root though if that doesn't work...

Erm ... no it works fine (as in lights up and sd card is accessible) on the host not at all on the other socket.

Rooting sounds a bit of a nightmare ?
the PPP app does indeed say no driver found though ... so even rooting might not work ???

I think the PPP app doesn't work properly unless you are rooted unfortunately. According to the developer it should work with your modem automatically. Although it also says if you're not rooted you're meant to get a not rooted error...

You could try what he suggests in post 2 of http://www.draisberghof.de/usb_modeswitch/bb/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=1195 but he also states that the fix has been included in the application already

Rooting deffo seems a no-no especially as it may invalidate my warranty on the tablet.
I guess my best option is to return the USB and sim as it obviously isn't fit for purpose ( I specifically asked the agent if it was android compatible) and look at other options.

Any recommendations ? I need Tmobile or Vodaphone IIRC for best signal in the area I am staying.
I suppose I could keep the SIM and just return the USB stick ?

I think it's a driver issue so perhaps it works on some android tablets but not on others. To be honest I'd have advised you just get a 3G tablet in the first place, less hassle

TBH when I got the tablet I didn't expect I would need 3G :)
I assumed most places are wifi enabled these days .... that's what assuming does for ya :)

Looking to get a mifi (as they call it) doodah :p Basically picks up 3g and converts it to wifi signal, only thing is its the same make (Huawei E5332) so it might be pants too !

Ive got a Huawei E5331 and it works wonders :) Never had an issue with it.

Tethering to my phone isn't a good idea ... As I don't use my phone for internet much, I only have a 250mb internet allowance.
I plan on using the tablet to skype video call every evening for 7 days, so I don't think that will cut it !

TBH the mifi seems the best option, and I can get a 30 day 2gb contract, cancel it after 30 days and keep the hardware.
If I need it in future, just buy a PAYG sim :)

I have also found a few positive opinions like Pegasus's, and not much bad, so I think that's the way to go :)

Thanks guys, at least I know now that the dongle wasn't likely to work without rooting etc, and it wasn't purely a user error ;)

Unsure if the mifi will be unlocked, as I presume orange or tmobile (best deals currently) will have it locked.
But I can look into that later :)
