well someone suggested it here and I would like to give this a stab but it seems I have fallen over at the first hurdle.

The laptops we have allow PXE boot but I dont think they have the NIC drivers built in if that makes sense.

I have set up and configured WDS on my 2k3 box and added a boot.wim file from a vista DVD.

I've looked through some tutorials but none seem to cover exactly step by step what I want to achieve which is to install XP Pro and associated drivers and software over the network.

Does anyone have any pointers or talk me through what I need to do now?

appreciated

You don't need NIC drivers to boot off PXE, you may need to integrate them into your boot WIM or your install WIM so that the machine can join the domain whilst building, but that is about it.

Where abouts are you falling over?

ok thanks. So I've added the boot.wim file from a vista DVD. What is next?

How / what is sysprep and where does it fit in here? How do I create an XP Pro SP2 image inside win2k3?

Once I've done these things is it a case of hitting F12 when the laptop boots and choosing the image?

Thanks

You need to create a capture image. Then you can use this to "capture" the system state of whatever machine you want to be your base install.

I'd be tempted to reboot and hit F12 now though, just to be sure you have the WDS server and DHCP server configured correctly.

Thanks. What and how do I use to capture an image. Do I install something on to one of the XP Pro machines just after its been set up then copy that file over to the server?
