ok guys installed vista and it was running fine and super smooth. Now for some reason upon boot up when it gets to the loading screen (scrolling bar at the bottom of the screen) it scrolls about 2 times then the screen goes black and it then takes 4 minutes to get to the sign in screen during this time the hard drive led is constantly on!

innitially i thought this could be a hard drive problem so i error checked both of my hard drives and found nothing, ran memtest and it produced error's i thought i found the problem! woke up this morning turned the computer on and it booted fine first time without delay, after a restart i had the same problem it took ages! so i ran memtest again and it is now producing no errors! urm guys am i missing something? or have i not installed something i should have?

latest update :

i've just memtested both sticks and came up with errors, so i memtested each module to see which is faulty both passed 2 loops of memtest fine! could it now be a memory slot on my motherboard?

anyone?

it is a fresh install lol, and why would a fresh install stop the memory producing error's in memtest?

It wouldn't, but i have seen fresh installs defiy mem test. It's not a perfect science by any means.

okies well i'l give it a go in a bit, just memtesting each stick again to see if it's either of the modules or if it's a memory slot on my motherboard causing the problem

tested both modules in slot 1 both passed 2 loops of memtest (about 30mins), tested 1 of the modules in slot b1 (for dual channel) and i got 5120 errors after 9minutes
