HELP! What do I upgrade first??

I would like to have a little upgrade for my system. I used to be VERY much into this scene but as of the last 2 years I have let it drop and have lost touch.

Basically I'd like to know what I'd benefit from ugrading first or am I at the stage where I need the whole shooting match updated?

Ok, I use my PC for Games (1st or 3rd person shooters mainly), browsing, Music and of course a little porn ;)

My current specs are:

22" Iiyama Widescreen
4800+ X2 @ 2.8ghz
2 x 1gb Crucial Ballistix PC4000
DFI SLI-DR
BFG 8800 GTS 640mb
OCZ Powerstream 700w
XFI xtreme Music
Full 1/2" custom Watercooling with Storm G5 and HE120.3
74gb Raptor

I know there are new gfx cards coming out but I wonder whether I need a new CPU / RAM etc or is mine still able to cut the mustard?

mobo cpu and ram,. Unfortunately those three have to be brought at the same time.

then get a big hdd 74gig for all your stuff, how the hell do you listen to music with such little space, let alone porn.

LOL, yeah sorry I didn't bother mentioning the other standard stuff, but I have a maxtor 500gb storage drive and CD/DVD writer etc.

So you think a system update with mobo, ram and cou is the way to go and keep the gfx for a little while?

I cannot believe the CPU's are SOOOO cheap now? Should I be waiting for any amazing new release right around the corner or grab a CPU now?
 
the gfx is more than fine and the new gpu is out this/next month so no point upgrading.
No there isn't any new cpu releases due. Not for a while. just get Intel and over clock it on your water cooling. they overclock well on air so you should have no problem.

Everyone seems to be jumping on that Q6600, is that the one to go for or are the Wolfdale or Yorkfield the better choices?

Man... its soo hard to choose! Gone are the days of 2.4c Northwood happiness!
 
all depends what you are doing. If your ever going to be encoding films then go q6600 otherwise the E8200 is considered faster for playing games.
 
ben interesting to see some other opinions on what cpu to go for as well, as I kinda wouldn't mind upgrading in the future too :)
 
4gig of ddr2 ram and an E8400 should be the best choice.... (yes ddr3 is going to be the new standard but not really till amd adopt it and prices may not be as cheap as ddr2 ever). Plus the E840 starts at a lovely 3ghz (my 8200 is still good stock though) and easily should go to 4ghz (at least) :)

What speed DDr2 should I get? Again, I understand DDR ram to the n'th degree but DDr2 is summat I'm not used to at all.

Lol just pc2 6400 (800mhz ddr2) and clock it! oh yeah its probably best to get it in a pair of 2gig sticks too :) (4gig is awesome like that)
 
depends how much u want to spend, theres a new gem of a cpu that i can recommend and thats the E7200 45nm 2.53Ghz that with the right cooling could be shy of 4ghz? would save some £££, and i think you'd want some ram by the looks of your setup.
