help what have i done?

ok this afternoon was changing over the processor in my family's computer from a 1.4 duron to my old athlon xp 2.2.

so changed everythin over and then tried to boot up and nothing......no fans or anything spin on the motherboard or the heatsink. the ram LEd lights up on the motherboard but this is merely to tell you not to touch it whilst it is on.

I have tried changing back to the old processor and the same thing i.e. nothing. all the jumpers etc are in the right place the clock ratio are all set to auto so the only thing i can think is the motherboard has shorted or something or is dead anyway. Surely if it was any other problem then something would at least start to spin? the mother board is a giga-byte GA-7VAX.

any help would be much appreciated.

Have you tried the 2200+ in any other boards as CPUs have been known to fry other componants.

haven't had a chance to try the cpu's in another board yet but as i have two chips kinda thought it was the m/board that has went boom

Thats my guess as well considering everything powers up... and the song I am listening to is by Incubus
