Help: What is this error I get?

Ok, I am trying to copy some files to my PC off of a DVD-R but I keep getting an error and the files do not get copied. Here is the error I get:

Error Copying File or Folder
Cannot copy ****** Data error(cyclic redundancy check)

The **** are the file name. Can someone shed some light on what this actually means and if I can stop it from happening somehow?

Cant be, I get the same error with both my DVD drive and the DVD burner and they work fine with everything else.

Probably is the disc then. My mate, who burned the DVD, has quite an old PC so the burner is probably burning errors.
