Help, whats wrong with my SLI

Ive got
2 x 7600GT's
1Gig of DDR2
3Gig 64Bit AMD Athlon
Asus M2N-E SLI Mobo

Using CS Source on the video stress test.

I get between 40 - 200fps (which i think is a too big fluctuation anyway) with one card, averaging 109fps

With SLI enabled, i get again 40 - 200fps
averaging 80fps!!!!!

worse still with SLI enabled, my fps can drop as low as 20 in game making it a hindrance.

Anyone got any idea what to do

any help much appreciated.

200 is rapid yeah. but it hits that with one card. the point is, my average fps goes down when using sli as opposed to without it. surely this should never be the case

anybody else got a "helpfull" response they could bless me with?

Is SFR being forced? I've seen that happen when SLI was using the wrong method... I _think_ Source games use AFR.

i had a few problems with sli, even though i had "enabled" it, the only way to be sure was to put that green load bar thing on. even then it would sometimes work and then not. strange thing was, i did a fresh install of xp and had the cards in, stuck latest drivers on and wahay! sli was working.
im not saying you need to do a fresh install but it might sort it.

Just done some testing... and I think you are CPU limited hence not seeing much of a gain (infact losing it) - source is very CPU dependant - testing a similiar SLI setup but with a 3Gig P4 (800FSB) so prolly faster than your A64 - the CPU was pretty much maxed out with one card let alone 2.

Hes not cpu limited. He has a 3ghz a64 x2 thats very fast. It cant be that. If think he maybe using the wrong sli type.

so what CPU would you recommend to go with these two cards? Needs to be socket AM2 if i need to upgrade.

Also, are you sure this is the problem? Wouldn't want to spend the money for nothing

And! you said you did some testing. What fps were you getting? was it anything like mine?

I'm on the latest drivers

considering getting a new CPU.

can anyone recommend one.

Selling the cards and getting a single better one would probably be a better idea mate.

If he has a X2 @ 3gig then fair enough hes not CPU limited... from "3Gig 64Bit AMD Athlon" I was assuming he had an A64 3000+ or similiar single core...

If i remember right, when i used to have an SLI 7800gtx setup a few years ago it's didn't work very well in CS Source at all...
(X3:reunion was another game that i remember very well that didn't like an SLI setup)

I Don't know if any the later drivers has fixed this or not...

Oh yer, he may have that if you are correct then it could be cpu limitation.

more on the topic

i just did a 3D mark and got 4570

which doesn't mean a great deal to me.

im thinking if i get an athlon 64 X2 6000+ and overclock the 7600GT's then my machine will be pretty good.

What does everyone reckon?
