I recently installed a Gigabyte GA-EP45-DS3P motherboard.

I bought a molex > 8 pin motherboard adapter because I only had a 4 pin one.

When I first started it the CPU fan took a couple of seconds to start spinning and the exhaust 120mm fan didnt start at all until I gave it a small tap. It would boot and yesterday managed to install Windows 7 with all drivers. The CPU (a Q6600) was then clocked to 3ghz

This morning I tried starting it and it powered up then after a few seconds back down before even seeing the BIOS screen. I disconnected the rear exhaust fan and 2 of the hard drivers but it did the same

Does anyone know what sort of thing a power up, then back down is caused by?

CPU fan is plugged into CPUFan on board. There is something else that says PWRFan and NBFan, they have nothing going to them

Hardware -

Does it beep at all before shutting back down? My 965P-DS3 starts up, beeps once at me and then shuts down if it doesn't like something I've set in the BIOS. It's then back to stock settings on next boot and works fine. Which I realise doesn't help you. :p

You tried clearing CMOS in case it's a BIOS setting causing it?

Not having the same board or ever having used one, I can't suggest much else - there are larger-brained people on here you'll get more joy out of, I shouldn't wonder! :)

CPU fan is plugged into CPUFan on board. There is something else that says PWRFan and NBFan, they have nothing going to them

PWRFan = A socket for a fan that will be controlled/regulated by Power.
NBFan = A socket to plug in a fan for your Northbridge.
If you use this as they are marked they can be viewed accordingly in Bios & will be auto adjusted by features in Bios.

As for your cutting out it's probably the 8 pin connector or another socket, Just unplug everything, blow out the sockets & try it again & make sure the wires are not stressing the plug connections by pulling them out of line.

I will test tonight with everything out once ive blown out the sockets. Will just connect one hard drive, cpu and graphics card fan
I will clear CMOS
PSU has never given any problems in the past 3 years, so i very much doubt it

My money's on a power connector. This is exactly what happened when I forgot to plug the extra 4-pin power into my 1156 mobo (yeah I'm an idiot :))

I got one of these - It only has 3 pins inside the molex instead of 4, is that right? My Hyper 580W only has a 4 pin connection, that is now not needed

8-Pin 12V to 4-Pin Power Cable
only £2.99
Order Code: A50G

I took it all out yesterday and tested again, just with 1 hard drive, graphics, MB power, CPU power. The 'CPU LED' light was flashing so i reseated the cpu and heatsink. Still got the same light. I tried clearing the cmos on the board but still the same happened.

I then whipped out the battery and it posted and got to bios. I left it out for a couple of mins then put it back in and now all working. I must have crapped up a cpu setting which was saved and not being cleared properly.

Thanks all. priming at 3ghz now all day before trying for more. I need to work out if its a CPU or RAM setting thats stopping me get 3.2ghz out of the chip

dont wish to kick you when down but its worth reading the mobo manual before clearing cmos sometimes you have a jumper to pull out too
