As the title says, my PC just hangs for a minute or two on start up.

I get to the Desktop and then can't do anything for at least a minute, sometimes several minutes. Nothing works, I can't even run Task Manager to see what's going on.

I've tried starting in Safe Mode and running a full system scan with Kaspersky and Malware Bytes. I also ran sfc/scannow from command prompt in Safe Mode. All of which found nothing.

I've also gone through my start up programs in msconfig. I've disabled everything but Microsoft exe's and trusted programs. Again, nothing.

I know a fresh install of Win7 would most likely fix this, but I don't want to do that if I can avoid it.

Any Ideas ?

Try dropping the oc slightly or bumping positive offset and running like that for a while(its worth ruling it out).

try running a registry cleaner, it could old registry files conflicting with new ones or that haven't been deleted.

Thanks for the suggestions guys. I'll try them out. Strangely, it's been ok for the last two days, after many weeks of hanging.

What is irst ?

I would try removing the Overclock to see what happens. If your still getting the same problem then run Memtest for a few hours to check your RAM. If this throws up nothing then I would test the HDD with the appropriate software.

Funnily enough you mentioned at least one of the things that could be causing the conflict, your Antivirus. An update may have been installed which conflicts or hangs on a driver or a file. Also the most common conflict in this case is usually the graphics driver. Your Graphics driver may be running slower than your system or causing a startup conflict itself.
Some misconceptions of overclocking are the voltages and buffer overruns. The most common in your case could be a Sidebus conflict with the graphics driver.

It's been a complete mystery to me. It seems to have cured it's self as it hasn't hung for a while now. It may have been an update from Kaspersky which was then cured by a subsequent update, I don't know. The only thing I'm sure of is that it must have been a software glitch, as I've tested all my hardware and it's ok. Strange.

I hope It never returns. But just in case make sure you do a good restore point before updating the next .Net Framework Update from Microsoft. You may find things work a bit wierd afterwards.
