Just had a frustrating 2 hours chatting to MS being told I cannot do what I am trying to do yet the way I read it, every web site including countless MS forums state I can.

PC(1) currently runs windows 10 Pro (listed as retail) that was windows 8 retail and upgraded in the time of free upgrades.
PC(2) brand new, installed windows 10 Pro, but haven't licensed it yet.
object(1) windows 10 home retail license, was installed on a pc, ran the slimgr command thingy to remove it from the PC (3) my sons pc before he dismantled and sold the parts.(I kept the HD just in case also)

I want to put my windows 10 Pro license onto PC(2) so that I can get it online, get all the software updates etc and also the programs I use which I need to move across. Once the new PC setup, or before, I want to use the object(1) windows 10 home license and use it on PC(1) so that it has a valid licence. I am not sure it should be this complicated. MS told me I need to go an buy a new retail 10 pro license for the new computer, and that the current one is not moveable despite confirming it is retail.
I haven't tried anything yet as I don't want to incapacitate my PC(1) as it is used daily for work so want to be as sure as I can be of what I need to do.

The way I read every forum is that a windows 8 retail, upgraded to windows 10 carries a retail agreement although only allows one move to a new computer. Whereas a windows 10 retail license can be moved as many times as you like.

please, any help would be most gratefull

Not sure if it's much help but I have the same license (w8 upgrade (upgraded from w7 retail)) and have had 2 new Pc's plus 4x new motherboards since windows 10 release and have activated ok either during install or via MS chat (last activation was a pain via ms)

All I had to do was provide the w8 & w10 keys.

PC2 shouldn't need to be activated to get the security updates if it's just been installed, you have 30 days to activate.

Why not just install Windows 10 home on PC2 now?
