I've just done a new build and can't get windows 8.1 to install on any of my sata drives. It gives the error message: windows cannot be installed to this disk. The selected disk has a MBR partition table. On EFI systems, windows can only be installed to GPT disks.

What??? I'm clueless here can anyone help??

No problem. It's basically.

New UEFI BIOS = hard drive formatted as GPT (benefits are faster boot etc.)
Old style BIOS = hard drive formatted as MBR (legacy support)

you might need to follow the steps in the link in order to reformat the drive.

I'd recommend going with the latest stuff, so getting the drive formatted as GPT as it does make booting a lot faster, especially with SSD.

Thank you I'l give it a try. My disks are mechanical sata 2 drives so I hope it will go ok.
