Help windows won't start

First time I've ever had probs with windows. Windows hung and I cannot get it to start again. I've tried with the windows recovery option but it's hung at the "windows is loading files" ... (unless this takes a long time). I've got the windows dvd in the dvd drive but then cannot selct to boot from this as I cannot get the keyboard to work in the selection window (it works in the bios though). Any hints ??

win 7 pro 64
Gigabyte ex58 UD5 mobo
Intel SSD hdd
XFX 5850

the keyboard works fine when in bios but as soon as it goes into choosing what to boot from and "press enter to accept" the keyboard will not function nor will the mouse (power goes off on both). Therefor I can't select what to boot from or how to boot ...
