Resetted my CMOS to fix another issue and forgot to note down my OC settings. Now I can't get anything stable like I had before.

I am running a 3930k with an asrock x79 extreme 9 board.

I had 4,5ghz before with temps reaching high 70's when maxed out. Any help getting back to these settings would be lovely.

Remember I am a Newb when it comes to OCing =(

Thanks,

James

Also a little confused on a related point.

My Max RDP on the 3930k is 130w, yet in Core Temp it says power at nearly 180W?

should this be like this? I have managed to get a 4,5ghz OC again with max temps of 82 on some cores, does this seem ok?

When you OC your chip, it increases power consumption, sometimes drastically.

This is related as much or more to the increase in voltage than to the increase in clockspeed.

That said, I don't know if the estimates of these monitoring programs are reliable as far as power consumption goes (I think they are fairly accurate re temperature because of the built in sensors on the chips).

Of course, I don't like to waste electricity for no reason, so even though I Overclock quite high, I leave on the Speedstep & related power saving features, so my CPU reduces speed & voltage when doing un-demanding tasks (like typing this on the internet, for example). I'd recommend you do the same, if you don't already.

Everytime I OC it manages to mess up my front panel usb 3 ports and crashes my pc when running hitman.

It manages to pass all stress tests though? Any advice on why this is causing this?

Did you buy it pre overclocked ?, if so there may be a saved bios profile you can choose.

BTW you sig is way to big ..... read the rules.
