Has anybody out there managed to get 5.1 surround out of the SPDIF on the AN-M2 board?

I am trying to build a HTPC here and I can only get stereo down the optical into my Yamaha receiver. When I use the Realtek speaker test page with 6 channel selected, I only get sound from the fronts. When playing DVD from a VIDEO_TS folder, Media player shows the Dolby Digital symbol but nothing other than stereo comes out the back

Getting really frustrated here as I only went for this board because of the optical out and the bad reports I was reading on the net of the Abit Fatality mATX offering, otherwise I'd have gone C2D instead of AM2 :(

I'm using XP Pro and the sound settings in Control Panel seem to follow whatever you set the Realtek driver to. I have checked and they are also set to 5.1 setup.

One strange thing is that the SPDIF volume control is greyed out in the Advanced Volume Properties, although I assume this is a 'digital thing'....
