Im currently havin gaming issues with my PoV 8800gt. I have searched the forums for anything simmilar but didnt find anything.... so here we go:

i bought this card around a month ago to replace my old Asus 7900gt as my brother had one and he was very impressed. I got the PoV version because it was the cheapest and had read on here that regardless of price PoV are not bottom of the barrel stuff. my problem is that when gaming i get random crashes, could be 5 seconds in or 2 hours in. the screen freezes (no blue screen, black screen or even purple screen), just like a screeshot. the sound the gets stuck in a loop. this happens with every game i play,, from CoD4 to TMUF. the only way to fix the issue, this is the weird bit, is to alt tab out of the game, takes aboot 20 secs and then maximize the game, once i have done this, the game continues from where it was.

i have tried running fan at 100%, running with only one stick of RAM, running with no DVD drive, MOBO bios, both updating and "downdating" (im guessin thats a word) the drivers and running the games at lower setting. the last option was a reformat, so i made a new partition for all the stuff i needed and reformatted the rest.... this worked on TM for all of about 8 secs before a crash.

Temps seem good... 40 idle and 59 load from cpu-z.

My spec is as follows:

XP Home SP2
ASUS Maximus Formula.. Latest BIOS
Intel E8500
4GB OCZ 2GB (2x1GB) PC2-8500C5 1066MHz SLI-Ready Edition Dual Channel
X-Fi Extreme Audio
PSU = 700w modular Jeantech

thanks in advance for any replies... Quag

Edit... Sry for long post gents, i knew i waffled a lot but this takes the cake :D

I have a suggestion underclock it a bit at a time using rivatuner see if the same happens other than that try using various different drivers
to me it sounds like a software issue

ok it sounds like a heat issue to me then if it played for 20 mins
are you monitoring temps with rivatuner during gaming? it could be anything else too such as corrupt operating system virus or anything really id scan for virus
using antivir

on the virus issue, i scan everyday iwth avg and it comes up with bupkis. its crashed since i installed the card, and on the OS issue, as of yesterday, this is a fresh install of XP. My temps seem ok, ive read peeps on here sayin they are reachin 90c, the highest ive ever had mine, via rivatuner was 67c (this was on second day of install and 3 hours of CoD4 maxed out). i was well pleased with this. ive also tried 3 different driver versions, uninstallin with DriverCleaner.

this is really puzzlin me, help plz...........

i read somewhere that the G92's in the 8800gt's need 22amp on the rail.....

(yep, i havent got a clue what ive just typed, but ive heard its true :confused:)

does this have more than 22amp on the 6 pin pci-e rail?

i will try and see if my cousin will swap out his GX2 for this... doubt he will be please about it though :D :D

UPDATE:

Crashes have been getting worse by the day...

and as of around 1 hr ago, i get BSOD and a reboot as soon as any games are palyed?!?!!?!?

Does this mean the card is knackered? and my psu is ok?
