Hi,
I'm looking to buy a new 27" monitor but I really don't want to choose the wrong one for my needs....
Currently I have a Samsung BX2235 which I think is a fantastic monitor but it lacks 2 things I need, a bigger screen and a HDMI input for my PS3.

It needs to be a 27", have a minimum of a DVI and HDMI (or 2 x HDMI) inputs and be <£300 (sorry about the tight budget) I just get confused when it comes to response times and Hz. It will primarily be used for PS3 gaming and then some internet browsing and Diablo 3 (when its launched).

I have been looking at these and wondering what peoples thoughts would be?

Would have loved another Samsung but it appears they don't use DVI any more :-(

Your looking at a monitor thats a lot bigger than yours but no higher resolution, its going to look poor, you dont get any more screen real-estate at all just things pixelated more and made bigger

up your budget or get a tv for ur ps3

Currently I'm using my PS3 on a 37" TV, I'm moving my PS3 to my desk so that the Mrs can watch it whilst I'm happily gaming rather than me happily gaming whilst the Mrs has to sit and watch.

I'm just hoping somebody who knows about this kind of thing can enlighten me to the +'s and -'s of the above or suggest a different model?

Thanks

The +s are if your sat far away itll look nice.. like a tv does

but up close as a monitor its just a stretched version of the monitor you already have.

Ok, out of the 3, which is the better one or are there any others I should look at?

I understand what you mean about stretched image, where I lose on pc detail I'll gain on ps3 detail though ( I think)

Well basically you get the same amount of dots in a much bigger screen which means the dots are bigger (less detail). If it's a PC or a PS3 doesn't matter (the PS3 upscales games to 1080p most of the time anyway, most games at nearly half that resolution. I'm in the "that's too few pixels for such a large screen" camp but I realise that there is also plenty of people that don't mind it at all, so to answer your question, the Iiyama is probably the best out of the 3.

AOC is a bit of a budget brand and chances that you'll have problems are a bit higher. The ASUS is getting old (October 2010). The Iiyama 24" models are all pretty good and some even excellent (taking the price into account). That particular 27" doesn't turn up any major flaws among the first search results and it's quite a recent model (september 2011).

I have the iiyama and it is the best monitor I have had to date so far. Colours, response times, clarity is all superb and 27" even from a foot or two away still looks fantastic at 1080p.

I had the AOC and sent it back to ocuk, ended up going for the Hazro in the end, it was an extra £180 but the difference is phenomenal, I believe the older AOC had a different screen and was a lot better, so I know the budget 27" screens can be decent.

Just make sure you keep all the bits and send it back if its not to your liking anyway.

Why go for a 24" screen over a 22" one when 1920 x 1080 resolution is common on both? I think the answer is quite obvious.

i dont know why people do personally anything over 22 at 1080p to me looks horrid from a monitor point of view

Oh right, it's that AOC. They send reviewers a monitor with a VA panel and then shipped a model with TN-panel to consumers. Kinda gives a skewed view of things and would for me be a reason to never purchase anything from them.

For me it's taking my ps3 off the tv and onto my desk ( so the mrs can watch tv while I game) the 27 for the pc is more of a bi-product

Been looking for something to do the same thing, use for my laptop/ps3 as my tv in my room got taken by family. From what Ive read the Iiyama seems to be the best option and had really good reviews. I might wait to see if anything good is coming from CES but that might mean a 1-2 month wait for it to be released.
