I need some help please.

I have these parts and soon plan to build.

Case= Silverstone sg07
CPU = i5 2500
GPU = AMD HD 6950
Motherboard = Gigabyte GA-H67N

I have a few questions. I've not build this yet because i'm still waiting for them ram to arrive. I'm a little concerned about heat. How good is the stock thermal paste and stock cooler on the i5 ?
What cooler would you suggest If i was to replace it? and any other advice on keep the build cool?

The case can handle a 117mm cooler.

All the parts will be running at stock because I dont overclock.
Thank you.

If you don't overclock the stock cooler will be fine. If noise is a concern you could look at the Gelid Tranquillo. Is it the 2500 you have rather than the 2500k? You could get a modest overclock pretty easily with the 2500k. If you want to give it a try ask here and you'll get plenty of advice.

Hi Ashen,
Thanks for the fast reply.
I only have the 2500. I decided to go for this because I dont have any plans to over clock at all :)
I've had a look at the Gelid Tranquillo and it looks good. I think the best way for me to go is try with the stock cooler and see what temperatures are like, and then if need be I will upgrade to a better cooler.

Does good thermal paste make a big difference? I've read it does. Is the thermal paste on the i5 good? Would you suggest i replace it with a better brand?

THe thermal paste is fine on the stock coolers -and adding expensive TIM wouldn't be very economical for the very little gain you would get (if any).

If you were going to go to the expense of buying expensive thermal paste - you would be better off adding another £10 and buying an Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 or the Cooler Master Hyper 212 which come with pre-applied paste. You would get far better temps and using the BIOS fan settings a quieter system.

Thank Plec. Thats been very helpful.
I'm going to build my system and look at the temperatures. If they are fine i will stick with what i've got. If they are bit to hot i'll upgrade the cooler.
