Okay so I'm new to build a computer from parts but I know a little bit about them and wondered if I could get some help choosing a rig for a system. My intentions for the computer are fairly high end gaming and I'm also a animation student so running heavy graphics programs such as Maya, zbrush, PS etc will be needed. Also I don't need a cd/dvd drive as I'm using the one from my old system. I am using a 19" widscreen flat monitor. I am looking for a intel quad core definitely. My budget is around 600 pounds, I can go a little over. This is what I have came up with atm:

Any comment on it would be much apprieciated. Also will this rig work together properly, will all the parts fit in the case? I've never built a pc before!

Thanks, Matt <3

I've been advised to go for intel over amd for generally better performance I dunno how true this is. I'm going to be using maya to render mass images out when making animations so I'm looking for something pretty powerful. I also know nothing about motherboards so that may be why its wrong! Hence why I'm making this post :) Could you reccomend a mobo for a simialr price?

Would this mobo be better?

Thing is I don't REALLY have a income atm being a student so I can't really save up so to speak. I just have my loan!

My friend was talking about using some thermal paste opposed to the standard "pads" for the processor or something? Will this make much difference and is in nessecary?

You usually get a thin layer of thermal paste pre-applied on the stock heatsink which is great if you want to leave the cpu at stock speed. If you're looking to overclock i'd look at getting an aftermarket cooler like a noctua NH-U12P and some arctic silver 5.
Not really looking to overclock initially. =]

I cannot afford 800 pounds really.

The Cpu cooler there is that needed? I mean, I don't think I included one in my original rig. I am not looking to overclock just yet, so would it be needed?

Its got less cache but seeing as its on offer at the moment and the difference in price its not a bad idea. Saying that i don't think hes looking to overclock and as you'll need an aftermarket cooler + thermal paste with that q6700 on ocuk its only going to work out slightly less than a q9550 (retail) anyway. I'd just go for the q9550 and if you need a bit more performance out of it say in a year or so just buy an aftermarket cooler and overclock. It'll clock higher than the q6700 aswell.

Thank you and everyone else thats been posting here I guess I got my rig then at : http://img32.imageshack.us/content.php?page=done&l=img32/1872/pc3k.png&via=mupload

I'll wait a few days to make sure nonoe else posts with advice and then order the parts. :)

Thanks again.

that looks good if you ask me mate, i'd stick with that processor.
if youre looking to overclock that processor tho, get a better cooler with it, stock ones crap and you wont get anywhere :(
Aye my friend's really into overclocking so if I were to do that he wouldn't let me start unless I bought a extra cooler hehe!

And thanks to the guy about 8gb of ram. Question : How many slotswill the mobo have for ram? Could I simply buy another 4gb (2x2gb) at one point?

Edit: From what I can see it has 4 slots of ram so it would be possible.
