Hey guys, at the moment I have a Nvidia geforce gt 220 and I feel I need to upgrade it as I would like to play most games in ultra. I am wondering whats the best graphics card for around the £250-£300 range and how can I tell if it is compatible.
Thanks guys, I will much appreciate all responses :)

What is the rest of your system? I would suggest maybe an ATI 6950 (can then hopefully be flashed to 6970) depedant on your system. You may see gains in other areas if your system is not too good.

Its a hp pavilion elite hpe, its got an [email protected], 6gb of ram, 750gb hardrive, not sure on the mother board...I'll see if i can find the manual.

All cards come with reasonable cooling solutions. Some are better than others. It is commonly accepted (in your price range) that the 570gtx has the best stock cooler. Most tend to exhaust their heat through the back of the case but still, be prepared for increases in case temperature. Are all of your fan slots taken up?

Another few issues:

a) If PSU is only 300W, it will need upgraded. Post the 12V amp rating (sometimes on the back/sides of the PSU)
b) i5 2.67 will likely bottleneck the a 570gtx and 6970 (perhaps maybe even a 6950)
c) What resolution do you game at? You will need at least 1080p or again video card becomes bottle necked because of low resolution and low cpu power.
d) How long a card will your case accept? (570gtx/ 6950 and 6970 are around 270mm in length. Next batch of cards are around 250mm, then the next 220mm. Googling the gt220 length suggest 160-170mm for comparison)

All fan slots are taken up, I game in 1080p when i checked the psu earlier it said max power was 460w, max combined power was 385w? and next to the 12va it had 16A so I presume thats what you were asking. Also Im not sure if I can fit a longer gfx card in, how do i check?
and thanks for the help everyone!:D

Ye I will post a picture of the inside of the case then a seperate one of the psu, cheers for all the help anyway even tho it may look like this could cost me a lot of money haha.

Hey here are some pictures I quickly took to see if you could make better sense of what I have or haven't got!

I have decided to up my budget to £500 but if that is the case I might as well ebay my old computer hopefully getting 400-500 for it and make a new one from scratch??

Oh well, I guess I will have to think about what I want to do and save up for a whole new system probably, cheers for all the help/advice that was given anyways!
I might be back on the forums in a few months asking advice on making my own system :D!
