Hi guys thank you for your response. Need to buy all the parts and would want to aim for around £500 and would need an OS for it. Would I need any thing to anable 3d? Dont need it just wanted to know

Im wanting to stay with the case I picked also wont I need a graphic card for the build to play the games and blu rays?

still think i would like to have a separate gpu and cpu as i always believed that putting less stress on the cpu is always better :) the case i like as it will be a gift for my mate and i know they would rather have that style case to go under his tv. if you can recommend a better gpu thats cool if not ill stick with that one.

thank you again guys for your help it is much appreciated

ok im sold lol thank you guys this is exactly what i was after bouncing ideas so i can get what i need.

i looked at the gigabyte MB but it was out of stock :( this may sound like a noob question but does most HDMI send the sound as well or would i need a sound adapter? also are bluetooth keyboard/ mouse ok for games?? as i always use cabled parts.

I would personally consider using the windows 8 enterprise (evaluation) edition for free on a 3 month trial. I could then put some of that cash into getting a decent gaming GPU for the HTPC for more demanding titles. With MS releasing Windows Blue later this year holding off on buying an OS might not be such a bad idea after all ;)

fig i would try out win 8 for a few months and see if they like it and then go from there on buying an OS licence. i also fig you can watch bluray through a good freeware????

sweet thank you guys gonna go with that fan as i want to make sure once i give my mate the HTPC i wont need to worry about it any more. and thank you for info on software will look into that one and see how it fairs once i built my system
