Help with a Lappy saying "inaccessible boot Device.....

First thing i would do is find out what HDD you have in your laptop. Then browse to manufacturers website and download the HDD utils. Once you have created the floppy disk boot into it and scan the hard drive for bad sectors.

Then i would use the windows repair console and run chkdsk.

This should check for any errors on the OS and hopefully fix them for you.

After that, then it could be your MBR. Thats a simple enough fix.

Hi, sometimes its a built in boot lock that is used by some laptops, NEC being one of them. I had the same issue on a friends laptop that was won in an auction and could only fix it by replacing the H/drive.

The hardrive had a boot sector lock on it which was set in the bios, if you have the same thing you will need the password to be able to access the drive in the bios to format, no windows CD or floppy will fix the boot issue.

its a protection feature to protect files if a laptop gets stolen, also a pain if you forget the password!
