I borrowed my housemate's laptop, and acidentally spilt a drink on a bit of the keyboard. Now the entire keyboard isn't typing normally (for example, the 'F' will produce about 5 characters).

How do I go about fixing this?

Shut down the machine and take out the battery. DOwnload the user guide or search the web for a walk through if necessary.

Usually taking out the keyboard is quite straight forward, just record where you are putting the screws and the order they go back in.

Clean the area with the alcohol solution (isopropyl) meant for cleaning pcb's if you can get it. Let it dry properly.

Assemble the parts putting back in the keyboard. Put battery back in.

If you take the keyboard out you could frankly slosh it around in water (not soapy unless very well rinsed), let it dry (it will probably take a few hours, but give it a day in rice to be sure) then try it again. Pure alcohol would be best, but not cheap and you might as well just buy a new keyboard.

You'll be able to buy a new keyboard for £15-25.

You'll be very lucky if none of the drink made it around the keyboard and onto the motherboard. If you have doubts it's more than the keyboard causing any problems plug in a USB keyboard and/or mouse to test.

It worked a bit better but a few errors remained, so decided to go and buy a new keyboard for £10. All is good now and she won't bite my head off! :p

Thanks. :)
