Hi there

I want to do an MILD OC on my I7 860 which currently runs @ 2.8ghz
I read somewhere that you have to double a certain ratio in RAM but i happen to have a bit faster RAM than the ussual i think so i dont really want to OC my ram :

Corsair DDR3-2000 Kit 2x4GB XMS3
2000 MHz CAS 9
1.65 V

I have a PD55-GD65 MSI Mobo and i use a Sythe Muggen 2 RevB cooler.

I tried OC genie but i dont like it it pushed it to 3.6/3.8 ghz but not stable, i got a bsod with it on. Also the system seems to constantly run at 100% which i dont like, if there would be things to fix this in combination with OC genie i might consider trying that again.

I dont want to go really far with the OC, and i read that an simple OC should be very easy on an I7. I would already be happy if i could push it to arround 3.4GHZ for example, that shoudnt be too hard right ? I get very low temperatures 25C idle and 40C stressed atm.

What settings would i need to use to archieve this ? Do i still need to OC my ram along with it ?

I have got my i7 860 to 3.8Ghz recently. I needed to up the voltage to 1.325 (reading 1.328 in CPU-Z), have a Bus speed of 181MHz and multiplier of x21. I have a £18 Cooler Master 212+, its a few years old now, and a fair few case fans.

My P7P55D Evo (so same chipset as you?) has a RAM speed selector. If my FSB was stock, it would have 1066, 1333, 1666, 1866 2133. When you increase your CPU FSB, all of the RAM MHz will increase accordingly. I had 1666MHz RAM so therefore, I just selected the slower speed (1666MHz jumped to 17xx MHz and 1333MHz jumped to 14xx so I selected the latter) to ensure my RAM wasn't limiting my overclock.

TBH i wouldn't call 3.4GHz "mild" on the i7 860 unless I just got a stubborn chip.
