hi all,

I want to get a new PSU to run comp in sig + 3 HDD's, 2 DVDRW's, sound/wirless cards. I want to be able to use it for a few years and at end of next year i plan to upgrade mobo/CPU to the next level as such. the 8800gts is going soon and going to be replaced by 4890/5850 or simular (a decision for a later date i think) plus i dont want to rule out crossfire. Also would like it to be a modular PSU. i am guessing that around the 750w mark is going to be good for a few years to come?

One more thing i have had 2 OCZ psu's die on me so gone off them for now.

i have about £70-£80 any ideas?

thanks in advance for any help.

youre asking a lot for a quality 750W modular psu for £70-£80 (having discounted OCZ - only option which fits the bill)
given your budget youll have to ditch the modular requirement, Id look at one of these, BeQuiet (quality make) 650W (SLI compliant so should still suffice) £67

thanks for the reply.

well i could push another £10-£15 by waiting a little longer, if it would make a big difference. The modular requirement is one of my main reasons for upgrading. i had never heard of Be Quiet before i had a look at the PSU's on overclockers (but there is a lot i dont know about) so thanks for letting me know.

Virtually all PSUs are single rail, with overvoltage protection split over 1-6 lines. To overload one line on a decent PSU would require an unusual setup.

Antec Signature Premium 650W Power Supply is one of the best 650w PSUs going and just in your extended budget at £84.99. Note OCs price seems to be by far the best, most other online seller list it at £120+.

It's a lot better than the OCZ, Coolermaster and the Budget range Be Quiet Straight Power (It's better than the Dark Power Pro's as well, but they aren't in your budget :D )

If you are feeling really flush the Corsair HX650W @ £97 is the best 650W OC sell.

i want to order the new power supply tonight (so it gets here ready for win7) but am so stuck on what to order. as you can see from my other posts i dont know much about PSU's. i defo want a modular one, and would like it to be nice and quite.

Sasahara - i see you have suggested a lot of 650w will that be enuf power if i was to crossfire one day and be good for a few upgrades?

as for a budget i keep finding my self rasing it in fear of getting a cheap one i would later regret.

sorry about all the questions

right would the extra £5 be worth it to get this truepower 750

over this
corsairhx650

edit: had a look at a review and i dont like the truepower, has to many wires hardwired seems to defeat the idea of a modular one, now i just want to know if 650w is enuf power to last me a few years?
