Hey, Im looking to build a new unit, I have not built one for a good couple of years so I'm a bit out the loop in terms of "what's hot & what's not"

I always like to spend quite a while researching each component in depth until i'm completly satisfied that the spec is perfect (its part of the fun right?)

so yeh if anyone could help me out with a recommended spec as a place for me to start that would awesome.

looking to spend around £1500-£1700 on the base unit.

prefs:
Inel + Nvidia
- looking for quad core as I am a 3D artist (Maya 3DS Max)
- Solid State HDD ???
- Run 2 monitors & play games so SLI is a possibility not really had chance to look into SLI properly yet

thanks in advance!

Nathan

I was going to spec a 4870X2, but the OP wanted NVidia. A good card would have been the GTX295, but that's just a waste of money, so I chose SLI GTX260, which comes close to/has similar performance to the 295 and costs considerably less.

I would agree with the choice of the I7 route but I would go with a Corsair or Pc Power and Cooling PSU. Personal preference I suppose. Is SLI really necessary though? You can't game on dual monitors so I would just go for a single card solution. No worries with wattage, scaling, heat, space etc.
