I need a pair of front tyres for the wifes Escort (195/50/15), have rung around a bit and locally, to get fitted today, I have narrowed the selection down to either

Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3 at £43 each fitted

Or Toyo Proxes T1-R at a few pence cheaper fitted.

Not really sure which to go for, have heard great things about both but the higher wear rate of the Toyo's, does make me think maybe the Eagles would be better.

What do you guys think????

In true OCUK spirit - go for the Eagle F1s, I think they're the best tyre ever designed in the whole world ever!

And yes, on the Toyo T1-Rs - a mate has them on his almost-tarmac-rally-spec Astra, he's halfway through them after only a few months, and about 5000 miles.

Eagle F1's are excellent but they are not long lasting.

If you want longer life, step down from ultra performance tyres, maybe something like Goodyear Hydragrip?

They are for the wife's car so she is not going to be ragging it around at all, so they will last long enough, longer than the Toyo's from what I hear, and that is basically what this thread is trying to find out.

Just had a set of Eagle F1s and I will be always buying them from now on. Sure they aren't going to last as long as others but the grip they give is amazing.

F1 GSD-3's without a doubt i won't buy anything else now they are the best tyres i have ever owned / used.

Giving serious consideration to binning a perfectly legal set of 4 Dunlop SP Sport 2000's... Just don't give me the confidence the F1's did.

sell the SP2000. Someone will give you a few quid for them. Whether you think its a good idea useing 2nd hand tyres or not many people will use them anyway so you may as well cash in.

I'd have fitted F1s to my '2 if they stocked them in my size :( I heartily recommend them, but I've got the T1Rs on the rear now and they are excellent too! I ought to get a full set on... I have some crappy ones on the front and the car just understeers when I boot it around a roundabout :o :(
