Hi

Work was getting rid of some
Ubiquiti unifi ap ac lite ACCESS points

I grabbed one for home, as may help boost wifi strength.

But apparently this is powered by a Ethernet cable called POE.

How is the best way to sort this as I have the Sky Q Router.

Do I need some poe switch etc

Thanks for any help

How old is the access point? Very early (pre-2017) AP-AC-lite models were 24V PoE, later ones were both 24V and 48V.

You need to match whatever PoE injector/switch you buy to the access point.

Will look at it when I get home. Guess it will tell me on it. Thank you

It may do, or possibly not. If you buy the wrong PoE injector it won’t break anything but 48V ones are easier to come by than 24V.

Just looked. All it says on the back is
M/N uap ac lite
802.3af poe

So I should source a 48v poe injector?

Ideally. A network switch would be better if that could offer poe as well. As used up all the ports on sky q router and my 5 port 1gb normal network switch

Would a poe network switch damage things that don't need poe plugged into it. Like my sky box, av amp, ps5

Yes, you’re just looking for something that will support 802.3af which is the most commonly used system.

And just be aware there are loads of 10/100Mbps PoE switches and injectors but you need a 1Gbps one if you want the access point to run at full speed.
