Help with adding a bit of oompf to this please..

Clockheads, I have a buddy (who does not have a lot of money) who has an Advent DT1308 pc at home, i know it is not the best of machines, however he needs some advice on upgrading possibilities. Do you have any ideas which would help him play games like borderlands 2 on his rig? He only has about 300 quid to spend too.
The bare basics of his current machine are
i5 2310
3GB RAM
No GPU
1TB HDD
400W PSU

Even with a 7770 for example it might be perfectly fine (they dont use much power)

I still wouldn't stulid to be fair. There specced for that machine alone nothing more..
