With gas prices and everything else being so damn high as well as cable costs going through the roof I'm interested in possibly adding to my PC to be able to record my shows. Ive done some reading but really need some solid advice on what I would need to add and if it is even realistically possible to do this as this Pc is my gaming rig.

I mostly play MMO's that are not to terribly demanding and need to see if adding the tv cards and a new hard drive to my current set up in my sig would bog me down to much. I also need to know exactly what I would need to buy TV card wise. Id like to be able to have 2 cards or one dual tuner depending on price for the few times a week 2 shows are on at the same time.

They just raised the DVR service here another $10 a month and would love to take that out of the picture but at the same time I wanna be sure I can get the same function out of my PC that I get out of the DVR. I just do not know if it can be set up to be as "easy" as it is with the cable company DVR with the guide and things like automatic series recording and the like.

One of the other issues with the cable company DVR is I can not offload anything from it as all the ports besides the tv out and such are disabled. The thought of being able to buy a nice size hard drive to store series and being able to edit and burn series to DVD sounds appealing as well as just having tons more storage space.

Any help would be great and thanks in advance for your time.

All you really need is a capture card and enough storage to hold all of your shows. I use a Hauppage PVR-150 hardware MPEG2 encoder with my machine and I'm pretty happy with it. I haven't used them, but I hear that the Windows software that comes with them is absolutely terrible so you'll want to look at 3rd-party software, perhaps MediaPortal.
