I recently got my car wired up and i got myself a sub and an amp. The sub i have is a 500W XSS-12S(not the greatest but it will do me) and i also got a 400W 2 channel amp from ebay.

So i fitted everything in, and gave the system a try but there was nothing, there was no output from the sub or anything, but the power light on the amp was on. So then i tried a mutant amp(also 2 channel) my friend let me borrow and the same problem with that, the power light on the amp but no output from the sub..

So my friend then let me try his own personal amp, a sony one which was also 2 channel and it magically worked for some odd reason?

So i'm wondering, is it my amps that a screwed or is it something else? I'm sure i was connecting everything up properly. Is my only option to buy a new amp?

What about you guys recommend on a budget of about £50?

Thanks

i would search for something second hand.

I was using a JBL 75.4 for my fronts and sub and it was great for me. My sub was only 350WRMS but the JBL made it sing.

you could get something like that second hand for around £45-£50

I had that problem that it lit up but didn't make any sound. Have you measured the voltage to the remote connection to the amp from your head unit? Mine was 5V and the sub needed 12 I believe. Checked it with a bit of wire from the +ve supply to the remote input on the sub. In the end I wired it up to the ignition instead and it worked fine :)
