I've got Creative Gigaworks S750's for my computer, and have only ever played with speakers designed for use with computers, but my dad has just replaced his speakers and offered me 2 of his old ones.
They are 2 JVC SK-51 - 8 ohms 90W each. Apparently bought well over 25 years ago, but them still work.

I would like to try them out and see how they sound with use with our TV and media center, but don't want to spend much - £30 ideally, £40 max.

Anyone got any ideas for amplifiers? or is it a total waste of money and time?

I was looking for a cheap-ish amp to test some speakers with, like yourself. I looked on the bay and found a Cambridge Audio Amp that would retail for £150+ for £70! Bargain. That might be your best bet...

Thanks Halo - the speakers with built in amp - Same as the way my S750's work. I don't need surround a 700W 7.1 system is easily enough for me. 2 would be just a tad overkill :D

Firegood - thanks, I had seen them while looking last night. I might have a look at getting one.
