Help with an editing / streaming build

Hi OCuK. I come looking for your help yet again!

I stream to YouTube using OBS at 1080p and upload gaming video's four times a week. I use Audacity, Movavi and Camtasia as editing software. I also use Reaper as my audio processor.

For input, I use an Elgato HD60, a Blue Yeti microphone and a Logitech C920 webcam.

I'm looking to build a new machine, as my current i5 set-up struggles.

I don't need monitors, or a keyboard / mouse or an OS as I have those recently purchased anyway. So, I'm effectively looking for a base unit.

Budget is £1,500 and if needed, I can reuse the DVD-writer and 125Gb Kingston SSD from my old PC if it saves enough cost to get a worthwhile upgrade. I'd like to include a dedicated sound card if anyone thinks it will be beneficial and take load away from the CPU for audio processing, but my Mic is USB.

AMD seems the way to go at the moment, but I'm open to suggestions. So, OCuK, work your magic! I very much appreciate it!!

This is a pretty good place to start.
Ryzen 7 1700, so 8 cores 16 threads and a cooler.
GTX 1080, which are pretty good bang for buck at the moment, only a little bit more expensive than the 1070 with notably better performance, though if you're only playing at 1080p it would be worth downgrading to a 1060 6gb.
16gb of ram, which should be fine for most use cases, though if you're editing very large files it might be worth going up to 32gb.
Nice fast m.2 ssd which you can either use for your OS, or if you want to repurpose your old ssd for the OS and use the m.2 as a scratch disk for editing.
2tb hdd for mass storage.
x370 motherboard, so a bunch of I/O and the option for SLI
Power supply will be fine for a single GPU, but might be worth upgrading if you are likely to do SLI in the future.
I've not put in a case, but theres space in the budget for you to pick something you think looks pretty.
 
Here is a cheaper option with a GTX 1070. Good for 1080p/1440p gaming.

Case is personal pref so you might want something different. You can also add an aftermarket cooler if you want. The stock one is pretty decent though.

You should be fine with the onboard audio. One can be added later if you feel it necessary.

A GTX 1060 6GB would be a better option than a RX 580 right now, as due to the mining craze AMD gpu's are overpriced. If you want to save money then the GTX 1060 is ok for 1080p.
 
Does this seem a reasonable build? I have another £250 in the budget if there are worthwhile improvements to be made.

But, if I could make some savings (i.e. I don't plan on overclocking, so would a cheaper B350 board be better?) and get similar performance I'm not opposed.

I do most of my gaming on my iPad and record it using the ElGato, but I like the look of PUBG, so might give that a go!

Looks pretty solid, as you say it is worth saving a little moneys and going for a B350, the only real advantage the X370 has is the option to SLI and maybe a few extra sata and usb connections.

Also Just remember the 1700x doesn't come with a cooler, so will need to grab some as well.
 
The Strix B350-F in Lee's spec has better audio and (typically) more reliable Intel LAN.

The Samsung 850 EVO 250GB is worth getting at today's current price (£83), usually more expensive.

Wouldn't bother with a soundcard. The Ryzen 1700 has a lot of headroom for handling audio processing as well as everything else, and you'll likely be happy with the onboard sound quality, especially if you go for the Strix. You can use the savings from the soundcard and slightly cheaper motherboard to get 3200MHz RAM.

The 1700X does not come with a cooler. The 1700 does.

@amx if you want onboard sound , Gigabyte just has a slight lead.

120dB signal-to-noise ratio Vs strix 113dB

asus doesnt list the recording dB of their strix but Gigabyte do, Gaming 3 SNR rating is 114dB

as well a USB port for Headphones

also on sale for £15 cheaper then the strix- but does lack visual appeal and 8-packs ram can hit 3333hz over the 3200hz for the Gigabyte
 
Thanks for pointing out the cooler. I was looking at it and knew something was missing but couldn’t figure out what.

Orbital: I was going to get a pci-e soundcard but if onboard is just as good and has similar connectivity I could save £30. I assume there’s not much benefit to separate soundcard if I’m not really doing much audio processing?

z170 generations from ALL Vendors really smashed sound cards, but the worst culprit was windows 10!

Recently Sound blaster has stepped up its game a bit

but your looking at £100+ , website doesn't state recording rating as well which is odd. believe you have to use 3.5 jack port as well for headsets

on-board has come on leaps and bounds. Expensive Aorus boards you can change the DACs if you wish although a bit OTT as users problem have proper amps
 
I might drop the sound card as my mic is usb and it’s only really for speaker / headphone use.

I don’t believe reaper or audacity use the sound card for processing anyway.

no worries, ryzen 1700 and 1070 others have quoted is damn good money- not to much of a fan of zotac or the mini card when a small card is not needed - but that price point is BANG ON!

i've linked this video a few times in regards to gamers wanting a streaming rig


1700!!!!!!!!!! 1070 will also keep frame rates high and stable with visuals pumped up :D

all the X versions are , is that they are better binned chips- but amd have stated that Thread Ripper actually has the best binned chips... lol

get standard and you should hit 3.9Ghz fine. might need a bit more voltage and it will be harder or take more work to get ram timings over 3200hz > 3333/3466
 
The 1700 seems a reasonable substitute and is a bit cheaper.
I won't be overclocking, so I was going to go for the highest base speed I could, within reason.
