Hello !

First off, This is my first build and first attempt at overclocking...

I'm trying to use CPU level up on a striker II motherboard to 'simply' over clock my q6600. However when I select a cpu type and save settings the PC fails to boot, it just hangs with a black screen. If I reboot and set it back to auto it boots fine!

I know I should probably be trying to do this maually, but it should work though right ? what am I doing wrong ?

I'd advise you not to use the Level Up feature and to overclock manually...

Try searching the forums for your motherboard and CPU combo and read up what has been suggested for others.

If you must use the Level Up feature, wait for someone who's used it to post a reply, or contact Asus tech support.

Hello !

what am I doing wrong ?

You're doing nothing wrong , it is just rubbish imo.

I tried it on my Asus Maximus Formula and it didn't work for any of the settings.

Manual is the way to go , read up on the basics :)

Thanks guys, I kind of suspected as much.

...Off to find the courage to start manual tweaking :)

Its not that hard mate, once you master the basics of ocing there will be no stopping you. Plus people on here are realy helpful, so any questions dont hesitate to ask:)

Welcome to the forums by the way, hope they are as useful to u as they have been for me.

To keep it simple ;

FSB is your friend

Heat is your enemy.

Raise the FSB in small increments 10/20mhz at a time then boot up and look at your cpu temperature.

60 degrees is a safe limit to look for temperature wise on a Q6600.

You will cause no damage , the worst that will happen is that it won't boot and then reset to stock settings , and you start again.

Good Luck and Welcome :)
