Help with ATI driver installation

I've been having a few problems with video stuttering on my Windows 7 32bit media center, so I thought I'd try updating the graphics drivers as a potential solution.

First I downloaded the latest ATI drivers for my 3450 but when I installed them, the installation just hung. Then I used Driver Sweeper to remove any old drivers and this time I tried the Control panel, update drivers method. I gave it more than an hour, but when I returned it was still saying 'installing drivers'.

Any help appreciated.

What should I try next?

Driver sweeper breaks drivers now. There really should be some sort of guidance offered with them.

How old were the previous drivers and have you always had this stuttering issue?

The stuttering is a new issue. I was just trying out Blu-rays on TMT3. CPU is at 20% - 30%, memory usage is low, so I thought I try the graphics drivers.

I haven't updated the driver since installing windows 7.

i know i am stating the obvious but,

are the old drivers defo gone?

also are you on an administrator account?

just right click over the downloaded driver (usually in downloads) and click "run as administrator", this should run it.
i never use the control panel update drivers method.

I'm waiting for OH to finish watching EastEnders!, then I'll give it another go.

What is the best method / tool to remove the old drivers?

Just tried again, using driver sweeper to remove and the ATI install manager as Administrator. It seems to be stuck again, but just to be sure I'll leave it overnight.
