Hello, i am running this system,

*OVERCLOCKED* Intel Core i7 920 D0 Stepping (SLBEJ) 2.66Ghz @ 4.00GHz
Gigabyte EX58-UD5 Intel X58 Motherboard
Corsair 6GB DDR3 PC3-12800C8 1600MHz DDR3 Bundle
2 x Seagate Barracuda 7200.12 500GB SATA-II 16MB Cache - OEM
Corsair TX 750W ATX SLI Compliant Power Supply (CMPSU-750TXUK)
Antec 902 Nine Hundred Two Ultimate Gaming Case - Black (No PSU)
Microsoft Windows 7 Professional 64-Bit - OEM (FQC-00765)
XFX ATI Radeon HD 4870 1024MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card
Focusrite Saffire 6 USB soundcard

Now i have just installed this soundcard and i am getting really bad audio interference. When i scroll through web pages i can hear a sort of stepping noise and when i load up cubase 5 there is a constant buzzing noise in the back ground. Its really offputting, i thought these cards are supposed to be silent. When i plug headphones into the headphone socket on the soundcard i cannot hear any audio interference, it only seems to be coming out over my speakers. Any suggestions what it could be? i looked on the focusrite site and no joy there.

are you sure its that. i have perfect sound plugging the headphones into the headphone socket on my soundcard but not when i plug the soundcard into my amp.I could take a jack out of the headphone socket into my amp but would rather it was set up properly.

Yup this is your problem, your headphones are not grounded so don't have the background noise.

Try removing the ground connection from the audio cable, that may help.

NEVER REMOVE THE GROUND CABLE FROM THE MAINS POWER SUPPLY.
